Miami (USA), Venezuelans living abroad could tip the electoral balance in Venezuela with an active participation in primaries and 2012 presidential elections, said a coalition of opposition parties.
"It's a challenge we have and, no doubt, depends much of the great support they give us"
"The difference of votes we get to international level can increase the difference in votes to take out the opposition front to (the president) Hugo Chávez. Hence the importance for all involved, "said Pedro Mena, executive secretary of the Bureau of Democratic Unity (MUD) in Miami.
Some members of the MUD estimate that between 700,000 and one million Venezuelans live outside their country and urged them to engage in electoral processes.
However, only 57,010 Venezuelans abroad are enrolled in the Permanent Electoral Registry (REP) and of these 25,903 borne by the United States, according to figures from the National Electoral Council (CNE).
"It's a challenge we have and, no doubt strongly depend on the great support they give us by registering Venezuelans turn to the REP ", Mena said in a press conference.
